Aspera presented a wide array of breakthrough new solutions at IBC 2010, including: Aspera Sync 1.0, a new high speed WAN synchronization product; the next-generation of its faspex™ person-to-person file delivery software; new desktop and mobile clients; significant enhancements to its now patented fasp™ high-speed file transfer technology and management platform; and ultra high-speed WAN transfer solutions with major storage vendors EMC®, HP®, and Isilon®, and cloud computing leader Amazon Web Services.
The company also showcased a new automation and orchestration platform, and demonstrated how its latest core technology advances are setting new speed records, including faster than real-time transfer of HD frame files over global WANs. Finally, IBC attendees got an exciting sneak peek at upcoming developments in reliable multicast transport technology.
Multi-site file synchronization over the wide area with Aspera Sync 1.0
Aspera Sync is a new continuous file synchronization application built on Aspera’s patented fasp™ transport technology. It raises the bar for high-speed, multi-site, multi-directional synchronization of large file sets over the wide area, while matching the security and reliability standards of the Aspera software portfolio for high-performance file transfer. Aspera Sync is designed for all types of data replication workflows, remote backup and disaster/recovery implementations.
Global person-to-person file delivery with Aspera faspex™ Server 2.0
The next generation of Aspera’s flagship person-to-person file delivery solution introduces a new streamlined web interface, enterprise-scale Active Directory integration for very large user bases (thousands of individuals), automatic package forwarding between servers throughout the enterprise, and support for the new Aspera Cargo personal client application. Aspera Cargo provides Aspera faspex™ Server end-users with an easy-to-use email-inspired interface for sending and receiving digital files including automatic download of new packages.
Enterprise Server, Aspera Client and Point-to-Point 2.7
The latest generation of Aspera’s core fasp™ file transfer software features new capabilities for massively scalable transfer workflows including support for unlimited data sizes (multi-terabytes) per transfer session and any number of files, directory sources, or file ranges through persistent sessions. Large-scale automation workflows can take advantage of easy detection of in-progress transfers, command-file transfers for huge numbers of file and directory sources, and a new persistent query API for easy monitoring of many endpoints.
Aspera Connect Server 2.7 and Connect browser plug-in 2.6
The popular Aspera Connect web browser plug-in now supports automatic installation on all browsers, non-administrative install on all platforms, automatic detection of HTTP proxy settings for HTTP fallback mode in restrictive environments, and new IE8 and Chrome browsers. For third-party web applications, Aspera will preview a new SDK component for minimalist integration of fasp™ transfers within the browser.
Expanded centralized transfer management with Aspera Console 1.5
Aspera Console 1.5 - the latest generation of Aspera’s centralized management platform - provides a powerful new indexing and reporting engine for building customizable, business-specific reports of transfer history. Administrators can create custom indices for project, media, user or other criteria and tailor report content and format to sort and aggregate upon built-in or custom fields. Reports can be scheduled for automatic export via email or imported into Excel and other standard tools. Support for automatic backup and purge of Console data, built-in SSH tunnels for secure, minimalist management connections, and performance enhancements for large scale transfer databases (millions of records) are included.
PREVIEW — Workflow orchestration for the media enterprise with
Aspera Orchestrator 1.0
From automatic file forwarding after upload to full-blown workflow process orchestration, Aspera software is designed to handle the high-performance file transfer of your digital assets in even the most complex end-to-end media workflows. The upcoming Aspera Orchestrator is a new software engine and SDK platform for integrating and automating Aspera file transfer workflows with third-party media applications, systems and services (on-premise or cloud-based transcoding, quality control and digital marking).
Mobile user enablement with the Aspera Mobile Uploader 1.0
Now available through the iTunes App Store and the first product in our fasp-AIR™ line, the Aspera Mobile Uploader for the iPhone and iPad, enables companies to empower their remote news professionals and contributors with high-speed file transfer to and from mobile devices up to 3 times faster than regular TCP over typical 3G networks and up to 100 times faster over high bandwidth 802.11 Wi-Fi connections to long-haul WANs.
PREVIEW — Large-scale digital distribution with fasp-MC™
IBC attendees received an exciting sneak peek at our next-generation reliable multicast transport solution currently under development. Designed for large-scale deployments such as digital cinema, VOD or digital signage, fasp-MC™ is a new point-to-multipoint transport protocol for IP multicast networks bringing the speed and bandwidth efficiency of Aspera technology to multicast distribution applications.
Record-breaking transfer performance over global WANs
Multiple storage vendors, including EMC, HP and Isilon, have recently introduced breakthrough solutions with Aspera fasp™ transport technology running on commodity hardware, for transfers of large media files and file sets over worst-case global Internet conditions at several Gigabits per second in a single transfer stream. Aspera solutions have demonstrated in-order transfers of 2K and 4K frame files over the WAN at 3.5 Gbps — faster than real-time for full resolution HD — enabling a 2-hour movie to be sent across continents in under 15 minutes!
Powering cloud-based workflows with Aspera On-Demand
Aspera is quickly becoming the de-facto standard for moving data to and from the cloud. Aspera and Amazon Web Services are teamed up to showcase the multiple ways in which media companies can leverage public cloud-based IT infrastructure for improved efficiency and unprecedented scalability.
