Aspera Unveils Major Enhancements to High-Performance File Transfer Software Suite at NAB 2010

LAS VEGAS, NAB Show, Booth SL4114—April 12, 2010—Aspera, Inc., creators of next-generation software technologies that move the world’s digital assets at maximum speed regardless of file size, transfer distance or network conditions, today introduced major upgrades to its fasp family of products. The latest releases feature new transfer, server and user management capabilities, the next-generation of the patented fasp transport core, and multiple enhancements that extend the scope of Aspera’s high-performance file transfer environment.

The new Aspera Console 1.5 features a custom engine for indexing and reporting on transfer history according to fully customizable business rules. The Aspera faspex server 1.7 introduces an enhanced web interface with a new look and feel, as well as added functionality to support the management of large-scale user bases (1000 users or more). Aspera is introducing several major advancements in its fasp 2.6 SDK, including support for applications that continuously generate new files (such as transfer of growing sets of 2K and 4K frame files), generate growing files (such as output from live streams), or transfer file sections (such as fast forward and rewind control in remote playback applications) – and a new persistent query API in its web services framework for easier monitoring and reporting in large-scale transfer platforms.

In a separate announcement also issued today, Aspera introduced three new products including a high-performance multi-directional synchronization product, a transport core for mobile applications and a breakthrough ultra high-speed wide area data movement solution with EMC®.

Aspera Console 1.5

The latest incarnation of Aspera’s network-wide transfer management interface incorporates many new features for emerging customer requirements, including a custom engine for indexing and reporting on transfer history according to fully customizable business rules.

Key features include:

  • Customizable reporting engine for user-defined reports

    • Configurable rules for custom reporting fields based on combinations of transfer, host, and user attributes and metadata
    • New graphical report composer to configure custom transfer audit, usage and billing reports and advanced mode for any custom query
    • Scheduled generation and distribution of reports (e-mail)
  • Database clean-up based on age and automatic scheduled backups

  • Secure tunneling to managed Aspera nodes

  • Support for easy browse and selection of files from large sets

Aspera faspex Server 1.7

Aspera’s flagship person-to-person file delivery solution automates enterprise workflows and makes it easy for users to create and receive digital deliveries from a web-based console. Transfers can be monitored and controlled via Aspera Console. The new release introduces a streamlined web-based interface, support for the new Aspera Cargo personal desktop client, and more robust management capabilities.

Key features include:

  • Enhanced user interface with new look and feel

  • Automatic client installation (Aspera Connect browser plug-in)

  • Web Services automation API for contact management, package sending and receiving

  • Active Directory user management that supports thousands of users

  • Custom metadata configuration, recipient list management, and redirection of faspex deliveries to/from alternate server

  • Support for Aspera Cargo Clients

  • Per package expiration policies for fine-grained access control

     

Aspera fasp SDK 2.6

The latest version of Aspera’s software development kit brings new support for persistent transfer sessions, range transfers, and independent source and destination naming, as well as new extensions to the rich web services API for query of persistent session state.

Key features include:

  • Persistent session functionality allows on-the-fly addition of new files or sections of files to an active transfer

  • File transfer option to transmit specific byte ranges of a file

  • FIPS 140-2compliance

  • Native IPv6 support

  • New REST API for full automation of faspex transfers

     

Aspera Connect, Client, Point-to-Point, Enterprise Server and Connect Server 2.6

The full suite of our most popular client and server applications acquires a core set of new functionality with the recent 2.6 software release – including a new graphical user interface for Linux, ability to apply vLink™ aggregate bandwidth policies to transfer groups by IP address or metadata, and an automatic client installation.

Key features include:

  • New graphical user interface on Linux

  • Rule-based virtual link (vLink) setting by IP address or metadata for fine-grained aggregate bandwidth control and relative prioritization within groups of transfers

  • Email notifications configurable in GUI, in addition to Aspera Console

  • FIPS 140-2 compliance

  • Native IPv6 support
