Originally designed as a personal information manager, Microsoft Outlook is commonly used to send emails, store contacts, and manage calendars and appointments. When it comes to sending files or directories as email attachments, Outlook is severely limited. Only the smallest files can be sent effectively. As the size of the attachments grows, the user experience quickly degrades. Important emails are delayed due to longer transfer times, and the heavy processing load placed on the Exchange server causes other business-critical activities to suffer. Email attachments often exceed the allowable size limit set by the Exchange administrator, preventing the emails from being sent at all.
Aspera technology and solutions were designed from the ground up to move the world’s data at maximum speed regardless of file size, transfer distance and network conditions. With a complete portfolio of software products built on its patented fasp™ transport protocol, Aspera provides high-speed file transfer solutions that are ideally suited for a variety of applications and use cases.

Aspera Add-in
The Aspera Add-in for Microsoft Outlook is a client software option for the Aspera faspex™ server, which extends Aspera’s global person-to-person file delivery and collaboration capabilities to Outlook users. This lightweight software add-in completely integrates with the Outlook client — no software is installed on the Exchange server.
High-speed Aspera transfers are initiated using the standard Outlook workflow. Users simply compose an email and attach files or directories of any size; no additional steps are necessary. When the user clicks on the "send" button, the Aspera Add-in automatically sends the attachments at high speed using the Aspera faspex™ server.

High-speed fasp™ transfers
Incorporating fasp™, Aspera's unique, patented, high-speed bulk data transfer technology, file and folder attachments of any size can be sent at maximum speed, over global distances, using any network, fully utilizing the available bandwidth. There is virtually no limit on file sizes, and entire directories can be delivered to recipients at a fraction of the time — up to thousands of times faster than with conventional network protocols.
Interoperable with Aspera faspex™
Sending and receiving from Outlook is fully compatible and interoperable with faspex™. Transfers originating from a faspex™ server can be downloaded at high-speed by the recipient directly from within Outlook using the Aspera Add-in.
What's more, transfers originating from Outlook can be addressed to any recipient. Standard web-based email clients and Outlook clients without the add-in installed receive a standard faspex™ email with a download link to the attachments. Recipients simply click on the download link to start a high-speed download using the freely distributed Aspera Connect browser plug-in, or use Aspera Cargo for automatic download of attachments to their PC.
Data security is always paramount with Aspera file transfer software. All attachments are kept secure, with user authentication, data integrity verification and encryption over the wire and at rest. Until they are downloaded by the recipient, the attachments remain encrypted on the faspex™ server.
