faspex™ iOS app

high-speed faspex™ transfer app for iPhone and iPad

Smart phones and tablets have dramatically changed the way enterprises conduct business. From a lawyer accessing client information on an iPad, to an intelligence team analyzing mission-critical data, to a doctor downloading medical images, or a journalist in the field publishing a top news story right from his phone, any number of mobile scenarios are in use every day by people facing tight deadlines. The applications that enable these use cases and workflows all share a common challenge: they rely on traditional transport over wireless networks that have inconsistent quality (high delay and packet loss) and are unreliable.

Aspera’s fasptechnology breaks the bottleneck in traditional transport technologies, enabling highly efficient and reliable transfers of files any size over any IP network, including today's pervasive mobile data and broadband wireless networks, regardless of network conditions and distance. Many companies around the world are already using the existing Aspera mobile software and solutions to perform high-speed uploads and downloads from remote locations, and now with the new faspex™ iOS app, users can distribute, share and exchange video and imagery files of any size using the intuitive faspex™ e-mail style workflow.

Aspera faspex™ app for iPhone and iPad
The faspex app for the Apple iPhone and iPad is optional client software for Aspera faspex™ Server specifically designed for mobile devices running Apple's iOS operating system. Users can distribute and share any content generated or stored on the device by initiating a high-speed fasp transfer to any recipient using the faspex email-style workflow, adapted to the style of the familiar iOS email app.

With the mobile app, faspex™ users and 3rd parties can also download content sent via any other faspex™ workflow: mobile recipients automatically receive notifications of new content available for download. The data is transferred over the user's wireless network with Aspera fasp™ for maximum efficiency, and full use of the available bandwidth for both maximum speed and protection of other traffic. Downloaded content (video or imagery) can be viewed inline or stored on the device directly to the Gallery.

Fully interoperable with Aspera faspex
Mobile users can send content via faspex™ to any recipient, including faspex™ users accounts, workgroups and any 3rd party with a valid email address. Recipients are automatically notified and can receive the content via any faspex™ means - browser using Aspera Connect, email using the Aspera Outlook add-in, automatic download to the desktop using Aspera Cargo, or mobile download using the Aspera iOS app.

For example, users coming from a standard browser and email client on a laptop or desktop receive a standard faspex™ email with a download link to the attachments. Recipients simply click on the download link to initiate a high-speed download using Aspera Connect. Recipients running the Aspera Cargo automatic downloader can automatically receive the packages on their desktop or laptop. Users running the Aspera outlook add-in receive the files as attachment links within Outlook.

Universal, integrated, iOS app
The single app supports both iPad and iPhone devices, taking specific advantages of each device’s characteristics like screen sizes and user interfaces differences, allowing the app to “make sense” to your users regardless of which device type they are on.

Fully integrated with the common media-related apps and functions on the devices, particularly the Photo Gallery, downloaded picture and video content can be copied to the library in a single click, and photos and videos can be sent directly from the library.

Complete Security
The Aspera faspex iOS app is ideal for protecting the distribution of valuable content. All data transfers are encrypted over the wire and can be optionally encrypted at-rest (on the Faspex server, and when downloaded by recipients). Download packages can be automatically decrypted on the fly, if the recipient has been informed the secret, or will be download and stored in an encrypted form, and can be decrypted later. The sender may choose to whom and when to provide the secret, ensuring that content cannot be accessed by an unintended person, and controlling when downloaded content is accessed.

Aspera mobile iOS SDK
Developers that wish to embed high-speed file transfer into their own apps can leverage the Aspera iOS Mobile SDK. Available through the Aspera Developer Network, the SDK offers a queue-based API for initiating, managing and monitoring high-speed fasp™ transfers between iOS devices and the Aspera Connect Server or the Aspera faspex™ Server.
