Faspex is a simple, elegant application allowing even the most non-technical user to take advantage of Aspera’s superior transport technology for person-to-person file exchange and group collaboration involving file exchange. Users can exchange files, directories, and large data sets at global distances with maximum speed, predictable delivery times, and complete security using a very simple web and email interface.

From a web interface, users can send digital packages consisting of single or multiple files and directories to other registered users or project groups by dragging files into a "Send" interface. Similarly, recipients receive packages in their web-based inbox, or as an embedded link forwarded to email. The packages are transferred to the Aspera Enterprise Server using fasp transport, so delivery times can be guaranteed independent of network distance or conditions, unlike FTP or HTTP.

During transfer, the Sender, the Recipient, and the Administrator view the progress in real time through the web UI (allowing users to monitor ongoing transfers from any computer), and receive delivery confirmation via email notification. Recipients may browse the contents of a package before downloading, and, with a progressive playback option, preview media files while downloading.

The simple interface and easy setup are ideal for ad hoc transfer needs. Senders may add textual metadata transferred along with a digital package. A Group option allows project managers to quickly establish ad hoc groups of users that exchange packages. Each group member can send to the group, browse the contents of packages sent to the group, and download individual packages. Each user and group has a historical log of all packages transferred, and archived packages are available for later download.

Deployment

Faspex is an installable package (for Windows and Linux) adding on to the Enterprise Server. The web interface includes an administrative area to quickly add new users and groups, configure Aspera transfer policies such as bandwidth caps, and track and review all transfers. A new user receives a welcome email prompting the user to download and install the Aspera Connect browser plug-in client, and directing the user to sign on to the web interface to send and receive packages. When logged into the web interface, users can browse, download, and track packages they have sent, and packages sent to them and to their project groups. New packages are also notified by email. Packages are automatically purged according to configurable policies.
